Elders: Luke tells us that Paul and Barnabas “appointed elders in every Church” (Acts 14:23). The elders were also known as bishops, overseers, pastors and shepherds, which provide some indication of the different aspects of the work of the one office. In essence, they are in charge of the spiritual welfare of the local congregation. Their qualifications are found in I Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
